In a bid to enhance tourism and foster international connections, South Korea has announced the extension of its visa fee waiver for group tourists from six countries, including China and India, until December 31, 2026. This initiative targets travelers from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, and Cambodia, aiming to support the resurgence of the tourism sector as visitor numbers from China and Southeast Asia show significant growth.
The South Korean Ministry of Justice has stated that the extension of the visa fee waiver is crucial in aiding the recovery of tourism, which has been steadily increasing. Alongside this measure, South Korea is also launching expanded marketing campaigns and offering long-term multiple-entry visas to eligible tourists, a move expected to stimulate more group travel and enhance cultural and economic exchanges with neighboring countries.
China continues to be South Korea’s largest source of inbound tourists, and industry analysts predict that extending the visa fee waiver will further boost the number of visitors. This increase is anticipated to have a positive impact on various sectors, including retail, hospitality, restaurants, and duty-free shopping, which are likely to benefit from the influx of tourists.
Moreover, the growing tourism between China and South Korea is seen as a catalyst for broader economic and bilateral cooperation. Tourism officials are optimistic that these measures will not only attract more international visitors but also strengthen people-to-people exchanges, thereby reinforcing South Korea’s cultural and economic ties with its neighboring countries.
