China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang secured a silver medal in the men’s doubles badminton event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking a significant achievement for the country in the sport. This event saw the Chinese pair reaching the final for the first time in 36 years, last achieved by Li Yongbo and Tian Bingyi, who clinched gold at the 1990 Beijing Asian Games.

Liang and Wang entered the tournament as world champions, having won the men’s doubles title at the World Championships in August. In the final, they faced Indonesia’s Daniel Marthin and Leo Rolly Carnando. The Chinese duo won the first game 21-19 but could not sustain their momentum, with Marthin and Carnando taking the next two games 21-13 and 21-18, respectively, to claim the gold medal.

Despite the loss, the Chinese pair’s performance was noteworthy as they had previously defeated Indonesian teams in both the men’s team final and the men’s doubles semifinal earlier in the competition. Wang expressed determination to continue targeting gold in future major competitions.

China’s overall performance in badminton at the Asian Games was commendable, securing two gold medals in the women’s team event and mixed doubles, along with silver medals in the men’s team, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles events.
