Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored the importance of strengthening ties with Egypt during his recent visit to Cairo, emphasizing the enduring connection between the two nations. Xi, accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan, was greeted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife as the two countries commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations. In a statement released prior to his arrival, Xi highlighted the resilience of the China-Egypt relationship despite shifts in the global landscape.
He called for deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt, proposing new avenues for collaboration. Xi emphasized the alignment of both countries’ national development goals and encouraged joint efforts to coordinate their development strategies, particularly under the Belt and Road Initiative. The focus, he noted, should be on practical projects that promise long-term economic benefits.
Xi also advocated for increased cooperation in areas such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. By fostering stronger exchanges in these fields, Xi believes that mutual understanding and connections between the Chinese and Egyptian people will be enhanced. He emphasized the importance of continued mutual support on significant issues and the protection of shared interests.
Highlighting Egypt’s pivotal role, Xi described the country as a key partner in enhancing ties between China and both Arab nations and Africa. He pointed out the significance of both countries as members of the Global South and called for closer coordination on international matters, advocating for stronger multilateral cooperation and joint initiatives to promote global peace and stability.
The visit is anticipated to bolster political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, opening new prospects for cooperation in sectors such as trade, infrastructure, and technology. Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt to build upon the seven decades of diplomatic relations and inject new energy into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
