An agreement to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) has been signed by representatives from 29 countries in Shanghai. This new independent intergovernmental body aims to enhance international collaboration in the realm of artificial intelligence.
WAICO, which will be headquartered in Shanghai, is set to focus on bolstering global governance of AI technologies, promoting cooperation among nations, and ensuring the development of artificial intelligence is safe, equitable, and responsible. It seeks to uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter and encourages a people-centered approach to AI.
The founding member countries include Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia, Indonesia, and China, among others. By bringing together these diverse nations, WAICO aims to strengthen ties and collaborative efforts to address the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence on a global scale.
The organization is dedicated to fostering cooperation between member states to improve global AI governance. Its objectives are to ensure that AI is developed and utilized in ways that are safe, beneficial, and accessible, thereby serving the broader interests of humanity.
