Zelenskyy Says Ukraine’s Peace Requires Global Support, Not Just European Attention

by admin477351

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy used his announcement of drone defense assistance to US and Middle Eastern allies to make a larger point about the geography of support that Ukraine needs. Ending the war with Russia is not just a European challenge, he argued — it requires the active engagement of nations across the world, including the Gulf states now seeking Ukraine’s help with their own security challenges.

Zelenskyy confirmed conversations with leaders from the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait about drone defense cooperation, and confirmed fulfilling a formal US request by ordering equipment and technical specialists to be dispatched. He described each of these relationships as part of a deliberate effort to build a globally distributed coalition in support of Ukraine’s security and peace goals.

The logic of this global approach is clear. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has implications far beyond Europe — for energy markets, food security, nuclear safety, and the global rules-based order. Nations in the Gulf, which depend on stable commodity markets and a predictable international environment, have a direct stake in the outcome of the Ukraine war, even if the connection is not always explicit.

Ukraine’s drone defense expertise provides a practical basis for building these relationships. By offering assistance that Middle Eastern nations genuinely need, Ukraine creates partnerships grounded in mutual interest rather than abstract solidarity. The low-cost interceptors its engineers developed — priced at as little as $1,000 per unit — are a tangible product that any nation facing Shahed drone threats will want access to.

Zelenskyy acknowledged the complications of the current moment, including the postponement of peace talks due to the Iran crisis. But he expressed confidence that Ukraine’s expanding global network — built through defense partnerships, direct diplomatic engagement, and the demonstration of genuine capability — will ultimately create the conditions for the broad international support that a just and lasting peace will require.
