China has urged the United States and Iran to maintain diplomatic talks and steer clear of further tensions, emphasizing that dialogue is the most effective way to address regional conflicts. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the fragility of the current ceasefire while advocating for negotiations as a preferable alternative to conflict. He also expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Saudi Arabia to ease tensions and promote lasting regional stability.

In discussions held in Beijing with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, both nations underscored the critical importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. This vital waterway is crucial for global energy supply chains, with a large portion of oil and gas shipments navigating through it. Recent tensions have affected shipping activities in the Strait, making its reopening a central issue in ongoing talks between Iran and the United States.

China, heavily reliant on energy imports from the Gulf region, has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the disputes affecting the Strait of Hormuz. The discussions between China and Saudi Arabia also addressed enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology, and supply chains, as part of broader efforts to bolster regional security.

Minister Wang Yi reiterated China’s commitment to working with Saudi Arabia to mitigate regional tensions and support long-term stability. This commitment comes as both nations recognize the importance of ensuring the free flow of energy resources through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for the global economy.

In addition to the focus on energy security, the meeting also covered strategies for expanding China-Saudi cooperation across various sectors. By strengthening their partnership, both countries aim to contribute to improved regional security, reflecting a shared interest in fostering a stable and prosperous Middle East.
