Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored the necessity of ecological conservation and sustainable green development during his recent inspection visit to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia. This visit emphasized initiatives in wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the advancement of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.

At the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi reviewed the progress of restoration efforts aimed at reversing the damage caused by climate-related and other pressures that once threatened to dry up the lake. Over the years, conservation strategies have been successful in restoring and expanding the lake’s water body. Xi emphasized the need for strict adherence to China’s wetland protection law, calling for the prioritization of natural restoration in degraded wetlands, bolstered by scientific intervention as needed.

During his visit, Xi also inspected the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, assessing the progress of China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This program is designed to optimize the distribution of computing resources across the nation. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the efficient operation of completed projects and urged the timely completion of ongoing developments. Xi called on authorities and industry stakeholders to enhance computing infrastructure that is efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe, which would bolster China’s digital economy while supporting sustainable development.

In addition to ecological and technological advancements, Xi also took the opportunity to examine local agricultural and livestock products. He encouraged local officials to improve the connection between production and markets, aiming to boost the incomes of farmers and herders in the region.
